Starter Lessons
Join the OG Mahjong community.
Up to 4 people per session, 2 hours of coaching in a live online session, and plenty of time to ask questions. You do not need prior experience or any equipment to learn.

One booking books the whole table of 4 — R600 per person, R2,400 in one payment. Bookings are confirmed once payment is received, and a link is sent 24 hours before your session.
How The Mahjong Social began
Two years ago when I moved to North Carolina, a new friend invited me to play American Mahjong. I had no idea what I was getting into — or that I was discovering an incredible community.
Mahjong has given me so much more than beautiful tiles and an exciting game. It has introduced me to lifelong friendships, unforgettable laughs, and coffee (or wine) dates that turned into marathon game sessions. It has become a space where generations come together, strangers become friends, and everyone is welcome around the table.
The strategy keeps your mind sharp. The excitement keeps you coming back. The people make you fall in love with the game.
After seeing firsthand how special this community is, I couldn't stop thinking… why isn't this bigger in South Africa?

FAQ
What times can I book a lesson?+
Lessons run Monday to Friday in four 2-hour slots — 1pm–3pm, 3pm–5pm, 5pm–7pm and 7pm–9pm South African time. Your teacher is based in the USA, so those slots fall between 7am and 3pm EST.
How much is a lesson and who is it for?+
R600 per person for a 2-hour live online beginner lesson. Every booking is a private table of 4 people paid for in one payment — R2,400 in total. Perfect for friends, family or a work group learning American Mahjong from scratch.
How do I pay?+
Lesson bookings are held as a request until payment clears. We'll email you an EFT / bank transfer link in ZAR once you book. Shop orders are paid the same way — card and instant EFT options are being added as we grow.
What shipping and pick up options are there?+
Order online, then collect free from our Parktown North pick-up point. The full address is included in your confirmation email. We'll message you as soon as your order is ready and arrange a convenient collection time. Courier is also available for R75 up to 10kms from Parktown North.
What payment methods are accepted?+
At the moment only EFT is accepted. We are working on other payment options and hope to be able to offer them soon.
What is your returns policy?+
Check your order at collection. Faulty or incorrect items can be exchanged within 7 days of pick-up, unused and in original packaging. Lessons can be rescheduled free with 48 hours' notice.
